Spring and Summer 2010: Monitoring Visits

Join us on one of our spring or summer monitoring visits. See the land we have preserved. Meet our dedicated volunteers and landowners when we make our spring monitoring visits to properties protected by Northeast Wisconsin Land Trust.

Please call 738-7265 for dates, times, and locations.

May 8 2010: Gilson Creek Preserve Workday & Opening of the Preserve
Join other passionate people and help clean up Gilson Creek Preserve! Beginning at 9AM, attendees will help remove metal scrap from the entrance to the Preserve, post signs around the boundaries, and help post the main sign at the entrance of the Preserve to officially open it to visitors.  Bring your gloves, water bottle, bag lunch and chair if you want to sit on it during lunch.  Also during the workday, we will pause to take a hike to where the star of the Gilson Creek Preserve, the Dwarf Lake Iris, is most likely still in bloom. You may want to bring boots in case you prefer to jump across the creek. We expect to be done around 2PM.
Please call Julie at 738-7265 or email julieht@newlt.org for details and to RSVP

May 15 2010: Northeast Wisconsin Land Trust Field Trip to Gilson Creek Preserve
Led by NEWLT Director of Land Protection, Jim Klinkert, attendees will take a walking tour of two very special sites in the Red Banks State Natural Area. The morning will begin with a wildflower walk at the NEWLT-owned Gilson Creek Preserve. With luck, we will catch a glimpse of the rare Dwarf Lake Iris. Be sure to bring your camera (and boots/change of shoes in case you can’t jump all the way across Gilson Creek).

After we leave Gilson Creek, we will head over to the State owned Red Banks Alvar Unit to explore and learn about the unique plants and animals that inhabit this uncommon and fragile habitat. We will rest and enjoy a picnic lunch at a nearby county park. Optional afternoon activities will be offered to those who wish to stay and spend a full day enjoying this lovely part of northeast Wisconsin. Space is limited. For details, or to register, please contact us by
email, newlt@newlt.org, or by phone at 920-738-7265.
