Land Donations

If...

  • Your land has significant conservation values, but there is no one to inherit the property or your likely heirs can not or will not protect it

  • If sold, your highly-appreciated property will generate large capital gains taxes

  • You have substantial real estate holdings and want to reduce the estate tax burdens of your heirs

  • Your treasured land is too great a responsibility and you would like for it to be professionally managed and cared for by an environmental protection program that appreciates its value

...then donating your land to Northeast Wisconsin Land Trust may be an option for you.

An outright land donation is a simple transaction but it must be one the land trust is able to accept. Typically, we will request a financial contribution toward future management costs to assure we can fulfill our obligation to protect your land forever. This endowment is an important part of our commitment to your land legacy. Caring about your land is the most compelling reason to donate property to a land trust for environmental conservation and protection.

If you are considering donating your land or would like more information, please contact Deb Nett at 920-738-7957 or via email at debn@newlt.org

Land Registry

You may want to consider enrolling your property in our land registry program as a first step toward protecting the natural value of it. Many landowners are not ready to permanently protect their property through other land conservation options until they have a long relationship with their local land trust or until family circumstances allow.

By registering your land with the land trust, you agree to:

  • protect the natural character of your property
  • inform the land trust before you transfer the property to another owner
  • inform the land trust about any threats such as invasive pests or impending development

Northeast Wisconsin Land Trust assists landowners with resources to manage their property wisely. Please feel free to contact us for more information.
