Protected LandWolf River Bottomlands II (Waupaca County)    February 5, 2012
Protected Land: Wolf River Bottomlands I (Waupaca County)

Location: Waupaca County

Area protected: 95 acres

Protection strategy: conservation easement

This conservancy is one of two conservancies provided by the same property owners in Waupaca County. The swamp located here drains to the Lower Wolf River and then flows into the Fox River and north into the Green Bay of Lake Michigan. Since this conservancy has been in the same family when it was homesteaded in 1855, the property owners felt strongly about preserving the land in perpetuity.

Species documented here include:

  • turkey
  • otter
  • white tail deer
  • mink
  • badger
  • sandhill cranes
  • kestrel,
  • black bear
  • barred owls
  • ermine: a short tailed weasel that lives in northern biomes such as taigas and tundras
